13 going on 30
13 Going On 30 was a much cuter movie than i thought it would be.

first off, i love Jennifer Garner anyway. she seems like one of those genuinely nice people that you could actually meet and hang out with, without a lot of that awkward OMG YER FAMOUS stuff.

secondly, the guy who plays the adult Matt is rumpled and cute and crookedy smiling, which i thought was adorable.

thirdly, they cast PERFECTLY for the kids who played the adult versions of the actors. i'm always amazed that they can find kids who look so close to a younger version of the adult.

but mostly, this movie reminded me of being young, 13, melodramatic, and oblivious to the affections of Boys Who Like You.

they also captured exactly what i looked like as well as the kids i knew. i was the dorky sixth grader in the front row wearing the dorky sweater with the row of hearts on it. instead of braces, i had glasses. i suppose if i had actually stayed at the school where i was popular, and hadn't screwed it up by doing something underhanded and stupid to the ringleader, i probably could have stayed "popular" throughout jr. high and high school and ended up somewhere completely different.

it also reminded me that i like my life the way it is now and i like how everything turned out in the end. :)

in my horoscope today, one of the lines was, "you get what you settle for." i'm glad i never "settled" on anything.

P.S. [info]ca_amethyst... your closet-full-of-shoes LJ icon didn't by any chance come from this movie did it? *g*

I really liked the movie, which surprised me. And though I didn't care about her either way then, I've come to love and adore Jennifer Garner thanks to my recent obsession with Alias. I agree that she's one of those who strike you as someone you could enjoy being around without being completely starstruck.

I was flat out shocked at how much I liked that movie. It really IS cute. And yes, the guy playing Matt is adorable!

Don't know ... it was made for me.

okay. i'd probably have to watch the movie, stop-frame it, and then look at your icon to be sure, but when it flashed by in the movie, i actually said to keith, "i think that's Amethyst's shoes icon!!!"

It *was* a nice feel good movie. I liked it because it wasn't *overly* schmaltzy, and didn't try to just re-do "Big" with a female lead (though there were some similarities just because of the basic plotline, I didn't think it identical).

whereas in Big, Tom Hanks' character simply gets "old" on the spot, the actual time reference doesn't change; the character from 13 Going on 30 gets her 13-year-old mind transported into her future with no memory of what she's done in those intervening years.

*shrug*

I thoroughly enjoyed both movies and was extremely and pleasantly surprised by 13GO30. I especially liked that they had the music videos for "Love is a Battlefield" and "Jessie's Girl" as extras on the DVD... heh. But, that's just me I guess.

Indeed, both were their own films. And, I was glad of it. There's too much "remaking" going on these days, anyway...and of some utter and total shite to boot. It's good to see that a theme can be used without having to tie it in any way to something similar.

And on the music? Nah...aint just you, hon. There's others of us stuck in the 80's too.
